Irish CEOs believe next three years most crucial in decades

Top business leaders believe the next three years will be more critical than the previous 50, according to new research.

A survey by financial firm KPMG found that Irish ceos believe that disruptive technologies and a low global growth environment will have a transformative effect on their business between now and 2019.

The findings are published in KPMG's Irish CEO Outlook for 2016 which included perspectives from Ireland and around the world based on interviews with more than 1800 leaders from 28 countries.

More than half of those surveyed said that they foresee growth in their Irish workforce between now and 2019.

The survey also found that business leaders were divided on the likely impact of Brexit on Ireland.

Almost half of respondents (48pc) believe Brexit will have no impact, with 32pc saying the result of the UK referendum would have a negative impact.

Significantly, the survey also found that a majority of chief executives based in the UK are actively exploring the prospect of relocating headquarters and operations out of the UK since the Brexit vote.

Concern about the changing face of industry was also unearthed in the survey, with 40pc of chief executives saying they were worried about making mission-critical decisions that they have not grown up with or experienced previously in their careers.
