Jobs boost for Irish economy

Announcement of 175 new jobs

Three companies in the biopharmaceutical and software sectors in Dublin and Galway have announced 175 jobs.

Australian listed but Irish-headquartered Oneview Healthcare makes software to improve patient experiences and the productivity of healthcare providers.

It plans to recruit 50 more staff at its Dublin offices this year, and a further 50 across its international operations.

The company says the announcement follows the signing of multiple contracts with US senior housing and hospital groups.

Elsewhere, global biopharma company Mallinckrodt has announced a new €10m research and development facility for west Dublin.

The centre will be based at the company's new offices in Blanchardstown, which will be officially opened this morning.

The new investment will see 40 jobs created, alongside a further 35 new positions in other functions at the site.

The company, which develops, markets and distributes speciality pharmaceutical products and therapies, last year announced 45 positions in Blanchardstown at a new manufacturing plant.

The positions will be filled over the next two years.

Elsewhere, a software company is to create 50 jobs in Galway, with the opening of a new sales and services centre in the city.

MathWorks develops mathematical software that is used across a range of industries to assist research and development.

The company said it had chosen Galway as a location because of the existing infrastructure for tech companies as well as the availability of a multi-lingual workforce and a pool of graduates from third level institutions in the city.

Separately, GE Healthcare has said it will invest €150m in the development of four advance factories to manufacture next-generation medicines and healthcare products at an IDA Ireland site in Ringaskiddy, Co Cork.
