Irish connectivity platform provider Cubic Telecom is to add 60 new jobs at its Dublin office over the next year, bringing its total headcount up to 140.
The jobs boost comes after the firm secured a major deal with German manufacturer Audi. Cubic and Audi will bring the first connected cars to Ireland bring connected services through a SIM card, creating an in-car WiFi hotspot.
The SIM card allows 100Mbps high-speed internet access on the road, letting drivers and passengers avail of services like Google Street View and traffic information.
Cubic-enabled Audis were launched earlier this summer in Europe and are now available in Ireland.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny described Cubic as a "brilliant example of an Irish company excelling on the world stage".
"This announcement is yet more evidence that the Irish economy remains productive and innovative and our indigenous tech sector is growing from strength to strength.”
Recruitment has already begun for roles across software development, network engineering and commercial departments. The company expects to have all 60 roles filled by December 2017.
Cubic chief executive Barry Napier said: "Our expanding company will help us innovate further in the Internet of Things space, and create industry-leading products and services. The future is ripe with potential and we look forward to taking Cubic technology global.”
